BACKGROUND People have been walking the Earth for many thousands of years, but most people have only been wearing shoes for hundreds of years. Small children will often take off their shoes. They instinctively realise that it is unnatural for our feet to be too much shielded from the world.
We complain about knee injuries and problems with our feet, but in fact we are strangling the amazing network of muscles, ligaments and nerves designed to respond to our movement needs. We spend most of our lives in shoes and our feet cannot bend and move naturally. That's why Freet was launched: a shoe that lets your foot work the way it should, with a wide fit and flexible sole. Freet Footwear was founded by a team with experience in performance footwear development and biomechanics. Their mission is to allow feet to function naturally during all activities. Whether in sports, leisure time or just everyday.

BUSINESS ETHICS Freet design and develop all their products in the UK and work very closely with their Chinese manufacturing partner with whom they have been working for ten years. Freet adheres to EU safety and environmental regulations regarding the materials used and working conditions. Furthermore, Freet continues to research and develop environmentally friendly materials, such as the CoffeeMesh material which they recycle from coffee grounds.
They discuss with the production plant what is acceptable in terms of quality, cost and working conditions. Freet has never worked in the more cost-driven 'sweatshop' environments, and never will.
They support various charities such as Sea Shepherd, Woodland Trust, CLAN Cancer Support and the Salvation Army. They also work with Shoe Aid, which provides footwear to people without footwear and educates them to help reduce landfill.
