The Lems Barefoot Philosophy: Building Around the Foot
In 2008, founder Andrew Rademacher reached a turning point. Frustrated by the lack of shoes that respect natural foot anatomy, he decided to learn the art of shoemaking himself. He dissected his favorite running shoes, cut away unnecessary materials, and studied different fits and last constructions.
Andrew's conclusion was revolutionary: major shoe brands are going the wrong way. Shoes should be built around the natural shape of the foot. That means widest at the forefoot and toes, with complete flexibility and unlimited freedom of movement.
The History of Lems
After three years of research, countless design hours, and dozens of prototypes, Andrew launched his first shoe in September 2011: the Primal. Although Lems (originally Stem) has come a long way since then, Andrew remains true to his mission: creating naturally fitting footwear that gives your feet the freedom nature intended.
