With a focus on minimalist design and the philosophy that feet function best when they have to actively work on their own, Vivobarefoot shoes are designed to encourage natural movement and keep your feet in optimal condition.

Vivobarefoot shoes are made of high-quality materials, such as durable leather and recycled materials, making them good not only for your feet, but also for the environment.

The Vivobarefoot concept

Vivobarefoot was founded in 2012 by two shoemakers: Galahad and Asher Clark, who already had a long history in the footwear industry. They were fascinated by the benefits of walking barefoot and decided to create shoes without the limitations of tradional shoes. Their idea was very simple: develop shoes that allow the feet to move naturally. But also: barefoot shoes are durable shoes. So Vivobarefoot not only wants to make shoes that give your feet the freedom to move as nature intended. But they are also very committed to sustainable production and respect for our planet.

Why does Vivobarefoot make barefoot shoes?

Biomechanically, the human foot is a real masterpiece. The foot can actually do everything: from walking and running to jumping and dancing. Cramming it into a modern shoe (which has too thick a sole, is too narrow and too stiff) negates its natural strength and function. Our feet are the foundation of our body. And that should not be compromised.

All Vivo barefoot shoes are designed to be wide, thin and fexible. So they give you the barefoot feeling as much as possible. As a result, they promote the natural strength and movement of your foot. And so you feel the ground beneath your feet.

Indeed, there is a powerful sensory connection between the feet and the brain and thus our movement and place in the world. A minimalist shoe from Vivobarefoot reconnects you with the world around you and literally brings you closer to nature.

Wearing Vivobarefoot shoes has several benefits for the health of your feet and your body in general. Here are some of the main benefits:

  1. Strengthening foot muscles: Wearing Vivobarefoot shoes stimulates and strengthens the muscles of the feet. The flexibility and minimalist design of the shoes require the foot muscles to work harder, resulting in stronger muscles.
  2. Improved balance and proprioception: Because of the shoes' thin soles, people feel better where they walk and can coordinate their movements more accurately. Vivobarefoot shoes thus promote better balance and proprioception (the body's ability to perceive the position and movement of different body parts). The reason for this is very simple: there are thousands of nerve endings in the sole of your foot. Their job is to gather as much information (stimuli) as possible and transmit it to your brain. The more information your brain receives, the better it is aware of its position. But therefore also the better your brain can control your body. Classic shoes, with their thick soles, block these stimuli, reducing your body's ability to do what it was made for.
  3. Better foot health: Vivobarefoot shoes are designed to promote the natural function and shape of your feet. This can help combat common foot problems such as hallux valgus, other toe misalignment, ingrown toenails and more. In addition, the shoes provide good air circulation, which helps prevent discomforts such as sweaty feet and fungal infections.

Features of Vivobarefoot shoes

Vivobarefoot shoes are wide, thin and flexible. This allows you to use your body for what it is made for and gives your feet the freedom of movement they need.

  • Wide toe-box: unlike many traditional shoes, Vivobarefoot shoes have a wide toe box (also called anatomical shoe shape), giving the toes room to spread as they would on bare feet. This helps prevent foot problems such as hammer toes and corns.
  • Minimal cushioning: Vivobarefoot shoes have minimal cushioning, which means the foot has to absorb the natural shocks of walking. This stimulates the foot muscles and helps improve stability and balance.
  • Flexibility: Vivobarefoot shoes have flexible soles that mimic the natural movement of the feet. This allows the feet to move freely and adapt to different surfaces, promoting stability and foot health.

Combining ancient indigenous wisdom with modern innovation, the range consists of natural, biosynthetic and recycled material products with a super minimalist design. Vivobarefoot is therefore a B Corporation(™) certified company. B corp(™) are companies that use the power of business to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. Companies in the B Corp community meet the highest verified standards for social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

These values are at the heart of Vivobarefoot and everything they do: for Vivobarefoot, barefoot shoes are a way of life. Embracing nature, community, learning and playing (barefoot) are all foundations for our health.
